Caral, Moche, Chimú & Chachapoyas From the ancestors of the Inkas to Machu Picchu

With a rental car, you can explore each city at your own pace.

Traveling in the North of Peru will allow you to visit places still little known, cradle of ancient civilizations such as the Chachapoyas, the men of the clouds, or the cultures of the coast, the Chimú, Mochica, Chavín and you will have the privilege of being in the center of modern archeology, but also in the current urban and agro-industrial activity of the towns and peoples that are found throughout the 900 km of the Panamerican North.

You will visit very diverse archaeological regions, including a large number of pyramidal structures called “Huacas” of impressive dimensions and extensions.

ITINERARY

Day 1CUSCO / INCA TRAIL (about 12 km, max. Height 3000 m, about 5-6 hours)

Pick up from your hotel early in the morning and transfer to km 82, the starting point of your trek. You start with an easy hike (approx. 2 hours) to reach the archaeological site of Patallacta.

After a lunch break, continuation with 2 hours of ascent in a subtropical mountain valley, from Huayllabamba

Installation at the camp – Dinner and overnight

Day 2 INCA TRAIL (approx. 16 km, maximum altitude 4.215 m, around 7-8 h)

Departure at sunrise for a day of trekking.

After a 2 hour hike through lush vegetation you will reach the highest point of the Inca – Take the trails to the Huarmi Huañusca pass at 4215 m above sea level, (a magnificent panoramic view of the region).

After a break, descent to Camp Paccaymayu.

Installation at the camp – Dinner and overnight

Day 3INCA TRAIL (approx. 16 km, maximum altitude 3900 m, around 8-10 hrs)

After breakfast, climb to the ruins of Runkuracay.

Break and visit the site. Continuation to the Col d’Abra de Runkuracay.

Descent towards the archaeological sites of Sayacmarca, Phuyupatamarca and Wiñawayna. Finally, you will arrive at the archaeological site of Wiñaywayna.

Installation at the camp – Dinner and overnight.

Day 4INCA TRAIL / MACHU PICCHU / CUZCO PATH (approx. 5 km, max height 3400 m, approx. 2 h)

It is the most important day of the trip. Early departure, after breakfast.

 In the subtropical forest towards the mystical intipunku (sun gate), from where you can admire a magnificent panoramic view of the mysterious citadel of Machu Picchu.

It will only take 30 minutes to reach the citadel of Machu Picchu, for the site visit.

In the afternoon, from Aguas Calientes station, return by expedition train to Ollantaytambo (or Poroy).
