South American Destination’s Protocols

At Southamericandestination, we are aware of the challenging situation our world is facing due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

It is our mission to ensure that you not only have an unforgettable journey with us but also that you can feel safe during your travels. That is why we have put together a list of biosafety protocols to make the health and safety of our travelers our top priority.

Traveler Requirements

  • Be sure to check our Updates and take note of the latest requirements and restrictions for our destinations throughout South America.
  • The use of a face mask is mandatory in public spaces throughout our destinations.
  • In PERUas of April 26th, the use of 2 face masks are mandatory in places with risk of agglomeration such as shopping malls, department stores, supply stores, supermarkets, markets, warehouses, pharmacies and recommended in enclosed places such as museums. The additional use of the facial protector is recommended in these establishments as well.
  • During domestic or regional flights in South America and at the airport in Lima, you are required to wear 2 face masks. Before boarding, a body temperature check will be conducted and hands and footwear must be disinfected.
  • Only travelers with boarding passes will be allowed to enter the airport. Check-in must be online and the counter at the airport is for baggage handling only.
  • For international flights, you must be at the airport at least 3 hours prior to the departure and 2 hours prior to the domestic flights.
  • We strongly recommend purchasing adequate travel insurance with COVID-19 coverage before arriving in South America. While authorities in Peru do not require it, it is a compulsory prerequisite to enter CHILE (minimum coverage of USD 30,000 per traveler).
  • Some insurance companies are offering the option to customize your coverage (including trip cancellation fees before departure, emergency medical expenses abroad, repatriation if you have COVID-19 during the trip)
  • At this stage, only Peruvian and Chilean authorities have defined protocols for an international traveler with apparent COVID-19 symptoms.
  • In PERU, a traveler with apparent COVID-19 symptoms must remain in their hotel and dial the emergency number 113, send a WhatsApp message to +51952842623, or send an email to infosalud@minsa.gob.pe.  Responses may be in Spanish only, so we recommend that you contact our 24-hour emergency number on +51-987-524620 or email us at emergency@southamericandestination.com  so that we can assist you.

In CHILE travelers have to report any symptoms as well as their locations via an APP during 14 days of surveillance (available for both Android and Apple). Our emergency number is the same as for Peru to report a case. Borders in Chile will remain closed to tourists until July 25th, 2021.

  • Only passengers disembarking or boarding aircraft will be allowed within any airport in Peru.
  • When arriving, your assigned guide or driver will be waiting for you at the parking area, right outside the international or domestic arrival gates depending on your origin. They will have a sign with your name on it.
  • When departing, your assigned guide or driver will drop you off and lead you towards the check-in gate but will not step any further. Only passengers holding a boarding pass will be able to enter.
